Not completely Goth in nature, but thought this might be of use to some.

LinkedIn

I hate making posts like this, but I've had enough situations that it's probably time to bite the bullet. :P

I work in Communications for an iron and steel trade association, which means that I do a LOT with social networking and, particularly, sites like Facebook and LinkedIn. Now, I have filters for Facebook. I didn't start using it for work until well after I'd established myself there for fun, and it's got a nice filter feature that keeps me from worrying about any potentially off-color posts and such.

LinkedIn, however, is 100% for my professional career. If I don't add you on LinkedIn, it's because we don't have a professional relationship. Period. I don't know your work and I don't know your work ethic, I don't want to link *my* career with people I only know through a social hobby. So please don't hate me if I deny your LinkedIn request. It's not personal. Personal is for Facebook and LiveJournal. This is for my career, which brings me monies...and the monies feed the Casa de McCrady...and pay for Casa de McCrady...and provide for entertainment like movies and WoW and other social hobbies.

I like monies. Monies are good! Jobs are good! Help me keep both by respecting my separation between work and play! :)

Dear Musical Theatre Industry...

I understand that you have needs. We all exist in this crappy economy, and are doing everything we can to eke out a living. I know that sets have gotten more elaborate, cast members want more money, and expenses all-around have risen for you just like they've risen for everyone else. It's a tough world we live in, tougher now than it was even 10 years ago. And yes, tougher for everyone means that things are also tougher for you.

However we look to you, in part, to bring us beauty -- especially in times when belts are tight and the world looks bleak. So while I do understand the fact that ticket prices have been rising for the last few years, please stop now! It's gotten so that none of us can afford to experience your awesomeness anymore, which makes this musical theatre fan a super sad panda.

In 1998 I was able to purchase 20th Row Orchestra seats for a night performance of Les Mis at the Auditorium Theatre...for $55 a ticket. Compare that to now, where a 3-week engagement of Wicked in Philly is charging $110 for orchestra seats and $70 for nosebleeds?

Please stop? Please bring prices back into reasonable zones. I don't expect I'll ever see another $55 orchestra seat again but, for the love of art, please find a happy medium in there somewhere!

I miss you! Other people miss you! Still more people have never been to a show because they can't afford it and, unless something happens to make prices more reasonable, probably never will. I know how much of an influence you've been on my life, and the thought of you not being able to reach a whole huge section of humanity makes me so sad.

We've spent years campaigning to bring art back to schools. I think it's time we started working to bring art back to everyone in general.

Love,

Your Faithful Fan
Megan

The Weekend

Friday - needed to take a half day in order to head down to the DMV to get my shiny new DC driver's license. Went to Georgetown and was surprised at how efficient and nice the people were. Big difference from my Virginia experiences.

Saturday - Had folks over for some geekery. Also, got my passport book and passport card in the mail. For those who are thinking of getting a passport, their website is a big, fat liar. Four to six weeks is patently laughable. It took them thirteen weeks to process my passport. Be forewarned. And yes, as expected, my photograph makes me look like a skinhead drug dealer.

Sunday - went to tour the West Wing with friends, which was as awesome as expected. We saw the door to the Situation Room :), the Oval Office, the Roosevelt Room, the Cabinet Room, the Rose Garden, the Press Room, and the Navy Mess (cafeteria). Right after we left, Marine One dropped Obama back home. That afternoon, I drove over to [info]votishal's house for some kibbitz time about some stuff we're working on and enjoyed some delicious mac'n'cheese. Came home and wrote for a bit.

And now I'm back at work.

COOL!

Washington Post dropped by Kiss Kiss Bang Bang they took some really nice shots and wrote up a review of the venue, Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar.

If you haven't checked Miss Whiskey's tonight is a great time to drop by as I'm spinning Alter Ego with Franke Death. Hey, and if you're hungry Horace & Dickie’s Seafood Carryout - as featured on Man Vs. Food - is right down the block.
