The Miracle Question

Last night in class, we were asked "The Miracle Question":

If you could wake up tomorrow, and everything would be the way you wanted it, and people would act the way you wanted them to, etc...what would that look like?  What would that feel like?

The idea is that the client thinks about a problemless existence and smiles and relaxes, and then the therapist follows up with: "and what could you do differently tomorrow to start making even a little of that come true?"

When the class thought about The Miracle Question, and were asked for our reaction, everyone smiled.  When we were asked about our thoughts on it, I couldn't help but think that...it bothered me to think of having that much power and control over everything and everyone around me.  I 'get' the point of the exercise, and I think it certainly has a place in therapy.  However, I kept seeing scenes of BRUCE ALMIGHTY flash in my head.  If we got everything we wanted, we would miss out on learning lessons we need to learn, and we might 'mess up' the Master Plan of the Almighty Force of the Universe.  I wouldn't want that responsibility.  I'm afraid by trying to make everything into MY version of perfect, it would actually eff it all up, if only for someone else.

But then, typical of me...that's getting way too deep with it.  :)
