subbing - the job you love to hate

Not sure if everyone knows this, but I substitute teach part-time.

I usually have many an anecdote from my times spent with "those darn kids"...especially since they are so BAD when a sub is around!

I tend to teach at high schools, because the kids require less (read: not constant) supervision and you get off work so early.  (Sounds great, and it kinda is, though a) it pays crap; b) you're exhausted from waking up soooo early - your Period 1 kids are in their seats at 7:30am sharp; and c) every now and then, teen students can verge on being scary/mean - I cried once at the end of the school year last year.  But I digress.)

Anyway here is today's anecdote, which brings me an enormous amount of satisfaction:

A girl says to me, out of nowhere:

"Are you an actor?"

I stopped, startled, and glanced down at her.  Smiling, I replied matter-of-factly:  "Yes!"

She said:  "You look like one.  You look like you belong on Broadway.  Or maybe that show...what's that show?  Billy and Gracie?"

Chuckling, I corrected her:  "You mean Will & Grace?"

"Yeah, that's it!"
